Halloween! ("Spooky" as my 5 year old would say)

It's that time of year again.  You know, the time before all the turkeys come out (the bird, not people), and before the guy in the big red suit makes his appearance.  If you guessed it, then award yourself some of that candy you bought for all the ghosts and ghoulies who will be finding their way to your door this coming Sunday.  That's right!  It's Halloween!

Cue the theme music...from the Nightmare Before Christmas.  First, the "This is Halloween" song as the citizens of Halloween Town get ready for the big night.  Next, I have visions.  No, not of sugar plums dancing in my head, but of Jack the pumpkin king being mesmerized by the idea of Christmas.

So, where am I going with this???  Simple.  Whether you call it Halloween, Pumpkin Day, Trick or Treating, Trunk or Treating, Reformation day and the list could possibly go on, there is something that mesmerizes us about this holiday.  Just like Jack was in awe about Christmas.

For some it's the aspect of being scared.  Haunted houses, haunted cornfields, haunted this and that.  Scary movies, ghost runs, decorations, and other scary things.

For others it is the candy.  This is one time a year that we candy is allowed in the house and to be eaten.

But if you are like me, it is the costumes!

Ever since I was really little, I always loved to dress up.  My sister and I would make up little "dramas" and have a blast, while worrying mom a little bit.  Halloween gave us the license to be some else without playing in our bedroom or being on the stage.  As an adult, I find that I still love an excuse to get dressed up and be some one or something else.  Acting must run in my veins somewhere! (Yes, I know you are reading this, Dad.)

Thankfully, my daughter loves to dress up as well.  This year I got to dress up with her for a Halloween party.  We were fairies.  And tonight I get to be part of a "Live" Clue game at our church.   That had to be my favorite game growing up!  So, I'm excited!

In conclusion, my point is also simple.  Halloween is more than just about the ghosties and ghoulies!  So, have fun, be safe!  Happy Halloween!
